The High Commission for Planning reported that Fes was one of the Moroccan cities most affected by price increases during February 2025. The city recorded a 0.6% increase in the consumer price index compared to January, matching the rise seen in Casablanca, both ranking first nationally.
This increase is primarily attributed to significant rises in food prices, with fruits rising by 3.3%, vegetables by 2.7%, and prices for fish, dairy products, eggs, coffee, and tea also seeing notable increases. Meanwhile, meat and oil prices saw slight decreases.
Additionally, the 1.9% increase in fuel prices contributed to higher transportation and service costs, further pressuring the purchasing power of Fes households.
Other cities, including Rabat, Meknes, Laayoune, and Beni Mellal, ranked second with a 0.5% increase, while cities like Guelmim and Marrakech experienced slight decreases.
These figures reflect the ongoing inflationary wave in the country, raising questions about the expected government measures to protect consumers from the growing cost of living.
