The High Commission for Planning reported that the Fes-Meknes region has been notably impacted by the wave of price increases in Morocco during February 2025. The cities of Fes and Meknes saw increases in the consumer price index of 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively, compared to January.
This rise is mainly attributed to the increase in food prices, with fruits rising by 3.3%, vegetables by 2.7%, and prices for fish, dairy products, eggs, coffee, tea, and cocoa increasing by 1.0%.
Despite a slight decrease in meat prices (-0.7%) and oils and fats (-0.6%), these reductions did not alleviate the overall inflationary pressure, particularly with fuel prices rising by 1.9%. This has directly impacted transportation and logistics costs, which, in turn, have affected the prices of various goods and services.
According to the same source, the core inflation index—excluding regulated goods and those with high volatility—also recorded a 2.0% increase in just one month, reflecting continued pressure on the purchasing power of households in the region. There are growing calls for measures to protect consumers from the consequences of these price increases.
