Increase in Price Index in Fes and Meknes: Fruits and Vegetables Drive Market Surge, Prices Continue to Rise

The cities of Fes and Meknes saw a new increase in the consumer price index during February 2025, according to the announcement by the High Commission for Planning. Fes recorded a rise of 0.6%, while Meknes saw an increase of 0.5%, compared to January.

This rise is primarily attributed to the increase in food prices, with fruit prices rising by 3.3%, vegetables by 2.7%, along with other increases that affected fish, dairy products, eggs, coffee, tea, and cocoa, all of which saw a uniform increase of 1.0%.

Conversely, meat prices decreased by 0.7%, and oils and fats fell by 0.6%, but this decline was not sufficient to offset the increases in other goods.

In terms of non-food items, higher fuel prices, which rose by 1.9%, contributed to this upward trend, further increasing the cost of living for households in Fes and Meknes.

These developments come amid continued inflationary pressures, with the core inflation index rising by 2.0% in one month, reflecting a noticeable increase in the daily cost of living for citizens.
