Street Vendors in Front of Mosques in Downtown Fez: A Disruption for Worshippers and an Obstacle to Traffic

Several mosques in the city center of Fez, particularly during prayer times, are witnessing a growing presence of street vendors who spread out on the sidewalks and pathways in front of mosque doors. This scene has become a source of concern for both the residents and the worshippers alike.

This situation has caused frustration among many worshippers, especially the elderly and women, who face difficulties accessing the mosques due to the noise and chaos surrounding the area. Additionally, vendors often display goods in unsanitary conditions, sometimes neglecting cleanliness and safety standards.

On the other hand, the phenomenon has led to significant traffic congestion, with hand-pushed or pulled carts, as well as crowds of pedestrians, obstructing traffic on a daily basis, particularly around the Tunis Mosque and Tajmouati Mosque.

Citizens are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene and regulate these areas to ensure respect for the sanctity of the mosques and to facilitate traffic flow. They also urge the provision of organized and legal working conditions for street vendors to protect their dignity.
