The newspaper Assabah, in its edition published on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, reported that the General Secretariat of the Government has launched a new draft law concerning the prosecution and trial procedures for senior officials, including the Prime Minister, ministers, the presidents of both houses of Parliament, and regional governors.
According to the newspaper, this long-pending draft law comes as part of a comprehensive reform of the judicial system in the kingdom. It outlines a specific criminal procedure for prosecuting high-ranking state officials by restructuring jurisdictional rules and legal procedures related to such cases.
Assabah explained that the new bill aims to establish more transparent and rigorous legal mechanisms to ensure accountability in public administration. It is also part of a broader vision to develop the judicial system and strengthen the rule of law.
In this context, the newspaper cited informed sources stating that the Ministry of Justice has been heavily involved in drafting the bill to provide the judiciary with more effective tools for prosecuting officials implicated in misconduct or administrative irregularities.
Furthermore, the government is expected to present the draft law for discussion in the upcoming government council meeting before submitting it to Parliament for approval. If enacted, this could mark a significant step toward consolidating good governance principles and official accountability.
