According to astronomical calculations, Eid al-Fitr in Morocco is expected to fall on Monday, March 31, 2025, meaning that this year’s Ramadan will last only 29 days, while in other years it may extend to 30 days.
These predictions are based on precise astronomical criteria, with the moon conjunction occurring before sunset on Sunday, March 30, making it easier to sight the hilal in some areas. Therefore, the end of Ramadan is expected to be announced on the same day.
However, Moroccan authorities do not officially rely on astronomical calculations; instead, they follow sharia-based moon sighting to determine the beginning and end of lunar months, including Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs forms committees to monitor the hilal in various regions, and the Eid date is announced based on the results of this observation.
The determination of the Eid al-Fitr date remains highly significant in Morocco, as it is linked to various preparations and activities, such as travel, visiting relatives, buying Eid clothes, and affects the organization of school and work holidays. Therefore, everyone is awaiting the official announcement on the evening of March 30 to find out whether Eid will be the following day or if Ramadan will complete 30 days.
