The Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded a significant 3.0% increase in February 2025 compared to the previous month, according to reports released by the High Commission for Planning on Friday.
This increase is primarily attributed to a 6.0% rise in food prices, alongside a 2.0% increase in non-food items. The report highlights the following price changes:
- Fruits: +3.3%
- Vegetables: +2.7%
- Fish and seafood, dairy products, coffee, tea, and cocoa: +1.0%
- Meat: -0.7% (decline)
- Oils and fats: -0.6% (decline)
Regarding non-food items, fuel prices rose by 1.9%, contributing further to the overall price increase.
Regional Price Trends
The highest CPI increases were recorded in Casablanca and Fez (+0.6%), followed by Rabat, Meknes, Laayoune, and Beni Mellal (+0.5%), while Oujda and Tangier saw a 0.4% rise. In contrast, slight decreases were observed in Guelmim (-0.3%), and in Marrakech, Settat, and Safi (-0.2%).
Year-on-Year Comparison
Compared to February 2024, the CPI increased by 2.6%, driven by a 4.6% rise in food prices and a 1.2% rise in non-food items. Price fluctuations in non-food sectors ranged from a 1.7% decline in the transportation sector to a 3.7% increase in restaurant and hotel services.
Meanwhile, the core inflation index—which excludes regulated and highly volatile prices—rose by 2.0% compared to January 2025 and by 2.4% compared to February 2024.
