Fes News has learned from informed sources that preparatory studies for the construction of a new highway linking Fez and Marrakech, passing through Khenifra and Beni Mellal, will commence next month under the supervision of a specialized consulting firm. This project is part of the national efforts to improve the road network and strengthen connectivity between different regions of the kingdom, as announced by Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, during a meeting of the Istiqlal Party held in Fez on March 18.
According to the same sources, the project is aligned with Morocco’s preparations to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. It is expected to reduce travel time between the northern and central regions of the country, while also boosting economic development in the areas along the route by facilitating trade and enhancing tourism activity.
Additionally, the sources confirmed that this project is not the only infrastructure development initiative underway. Expansion work will also be carried out on the road between Fez and Taounate to improve accessibility and road safety, as well as on the road between Fez and Ifrane via Imouzzer to enhance intercity connectivity. Other planned projects include the upgrading and modernization of Fez’s infrastructure, particularly in preparation for hosting the global event, through improvements to road networks, sports facilities, and urban amenities.
Available data indicates that these projects will have a positive impact on the local economy by creating new job opportunities and supporting national businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, which will be involved in the execution of these major projects. The Fez-Khenifra-Beni Mellal-Marrakech highway is considered one of the strategic projects aimed at enhancing economic integration and achieving balanced development that benefits various regions of the kingdom.
