Administrative Court in Rabat Rules to Remove Idris Al-Razi from Presidency of Hassan District

The Administrative Court in Rabat decided on Thursday, March 20, 2025, to remove Idris Al-Razi from his position as president of the Hassan district council. This decision followed a vote by council members in January to request Al-Razi’s resignation, which was subsequently referred to Mohamed El Yaakoubi, the governor of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, in accordance with the provisions of the Organic Law No. 113.14 governing local communities.

The removal of Al-Razi comes after months of tension in the district, sparked by severe conflicts between him and council members, including those from his own party. These tensions arose following the partial legislative elections held in September, where the Liberal Party regained its parliamentary seat.

In January, 31 out of 36 councilors submitted a written request to Al-Razi to include his resignation on the agenda of the regular session for January 2025, as per Article 70 of the Organic Law. After Al-Razi refused to resign, the council voted to remove him by a majority, with 32 councilors supporting the decision. Members of the Federation of the Left abstained from voting.

This decision concludes a series of political tensions that have plagued the district, ultimately leading to Al-Razi’s removal from his position as president of the Hassan district council.
