Mustapha Lakhssam Announces Intent to Resign as President of Imouzzer Kandar Municipality

Mustapha Lakhssam, President of the Imouzzer Kandar Municipality, has announced his intention to officially resign from his position due to what he described as a “blockage” hindering the progress of development projects in the city. This announcement was made through a video posted on his personal Instagram account, where he expressed his frustration with the obstacles preventing the implementation of the development programs he had committed to for the city’s residents.

Lakhssam stated that responsible authorities are impeding development efforts, clarifying that these obstacles are not directed at him personally but negatively impact the city and its inhabitants. He added that despite his efforts to improve infrastructure and public facilities, recurring challenges have prevented the achievement of the desired goals.

The municipal president explained that he will wait until October to officially submit his resignation, aiming to complete the projects that have already been launched or those that require inauguration before he steps down. Among these projects, he highlighted:

🔹 Waste management project – A specialized company is expected to officially take over the sector in April, following two years of direct management by the municipality.
🔹 Model market project – Awaiting final approval from the Ministry of Endowments for its inauguration.

Regarding sports and recreational infrastructure, Lkhoums stated that the municipality has worked on:

✅ Equipping multiple neighborhood sports fields
✅ Launching renovation work on the municipal swimming pool, which has been closed for four years
✅ Restoring Ain Sultan space and implementing a plan to reclaim its water to transform the area into an attractive tourist destination

Additionally, he mentioned the creation of an equestrian and “Tbourida” field, for which the municipality has allocated financial resources to acquire land and develop the necessary infrastructure, aiming to preserve the region’s cultural traditions.

Lakhssam concluded by emphasizing that his decision does not reflect weakness but rather a commitment to the city’s best interests. He added that if his presence in office is the main obstacle to the progress of projects, he prefers to step aside to ensure the continuity of development efforts.
