After the Rachid Nekkaz Incident… Strongly Worded Statement Condemns Ongoing Algerian Attempts to Undermine Moroccan Identity and Heritage

According to multiple sources, the Marrakech Center for Heritage and Culture has strongly condemned what it described as “ongoing attempts by certain Algerian entities” to undermine Moroccan identity and heritage.

In an official statement, the center asserted that such actions contradict the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect between nations. It called for firm opposition to these behaviors, which aim to distort historical facts and encroach upon Morocco’s cultural heritage.

The same sources emphasized that attributing elements of Moroccan heritage to Algeria represents an irresponsible overreach that disregards historical realities. The center warned of the negative consequences such actions could have on cultural relations between the two countries. It also highlighted that Morocco, whose heritage is internationally recognized and registered with global organizations like UNESCO, will continue to defend its identity and national heritage through all available legal and diplomatic means.

In this context, the center urged Algerian figures, including activist Rachid Nekkaz, to cease promoting baseless historical distortions and to respect documented facts. It also called on international organizations to intervene in protecting Moroccan cultural heritage from any attempts at falsification or symbolic appropriation.

The same sources affirmed that Morocco, through its cultural and scientific institutions, will continue to raise global awareness about its rich heritage and deep-rooted Arab civilization. The center stressed that attempts to erase historical truths will not alter reality or affect Morocco’s standing as a nation with an ancient and well-established cultural legacy.
