Ministry of Equipment Reassures: Bouassem Dam is Safe with No Threats!

The Ministry of Equipment and Water has officially confirmed that there are no risks threatening the safety of Bouassem Dam in Al Hoceima province. This announcement follows an inspection visit conducted by the General Directorate of Water Engineering on March 18, 2025, in response to recent rainfall.

According to the statement, technical examinations by ministry experts found no signs of instability in the dam or its supporting structures. Additionally, no water leaks were detected at its base. The same source indicated that tests on the lower spillways confirmed their normal operation, while some minor water seepage was observed on the lower façade. However, these remain within normal limits and pose no risk to the dam’s stability due to its design characteristics.

Bouassem Dam, located in Al Hoceima province, has a storage capacity of 100,000 cubic meters. Construction was completed in 2014, and the dam was officially commissioned in September 2015.

In this context, the Ministry of Equipment and Water reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of water infrastructure. It emphasized that all stages of dam design, construction, and operation comply with Law No. 30.15 on dam safety, as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain water infrastructure and secure national water resources.
