The Casablanca Court of Appeal confirmed, on Monday, the three-year prison sentence issued against digital influencer Reda Bouzid, known as “Weld Chinwiya.” The initial court had previously handed down this sentence to Bouzid, who faces charges of defamation, violation of others’ privacy, spreading allegations through digital media for defamatory purposes, trespassing on others’ property, insult, slander, and threats to commit a crime.
In the same case, the court upheld the two-and-a-half-year prison sentence issued against digital influencer “Bint Abbas.” The initial court had previously sentenced her on similar charges.
The case dates back to a trial session held on December 9, 2024, where the defendants were convicted on multiple charges, including defamation, privacy violations, and spreading false information through social media. During the same session, Weld Chinwiya’s mother and three sisters were also sentenced to six months in prison.
These rulings come as part of efforts to regulate the use of social media and combat violations that may infringe on individuals’ rights or harm their reputations. This case highlights the importance of adhering to legal and ethical boundaries in the world of digital influencers, especially given the widespread reach of social media platforms and their significant impact on public opinion.
