The regional office of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) in Fes is closely monitoring with deep concern the distribution of Ramadan food baskets in several neighborhoods, particularly in impoverished areas. The party points out that these operations are being managed by an association with strong ties to a well-known political party, whose leader faces accusations of conflict of interest and abuse of power for personal gain, benefiting from massive profits due to his control over fuel prices, which burden citizens.
With the increasing involvement of elected officials and members of this party in distributing aid as elections approach, the PJD recalls past electoral events when vulnerable citizens were allegedly registered in electoral lists without their knowledge. The party emphasizes that the lack of oversight from the relevant authorities raises serious concerns about the integrity of the process.
The PJD’s Regional Office in Fes Declares the Following to the Public:
- Strong condemnation of the exploitation of charity and humanitarian solidarity for electoral purposes.
- A call for local authorities to tighten monitoring and enforcement against such practices, ensuring strict application of relevant legal provisions.
- Urging political and civil actors to take a firm stance against these behaviors that harm noble political work and distort the values of solidarity and charity deeply rooted in Moroccan society.
- Encouraging the media to shed light on these actions and expose those responsible for manipulating social vulnerabilities for political gain.
- Warning citizens against falling for these seasonal aid campaigns that serve electoral ambitions. The party asserts that these initiatives cannot compensate for government failures, mask worsening living conditions, or cover up the incompetence of the Fes City Council, whose fractured majority and weak performance have led to a lack of tangible achievements for residents.
