Signing of a Joint Declaration between Morocco and France: A Strong Partnership to Combat Terrorism, Crime, and Enhance Justice

In an important step to strengthen the strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic, the Ministers of Justice of both countries, Mr. Abdellatif Wahbi from Morocco and Mr. Gérald Darmanin from France, signed a joint declaration on Monday, March 10, 2024, at the Moroccan Ministry of Justice.

This meeting provided an important opportunity to review the results of judicial cooperation between the two countries and exchange views on issues of mutual interest, while emphasizing the enhancement of future cooperation prospects.

The joint declaration addressed key and priority areas between the two sides, most notably combating terrorism and organized crime. Both ministers pointed out that these issues represent a strategic threat at both national and international levels. They discussed the adaptability of criminal networks and the variety of their methods, which requires intensified efforts to combat them. Both ministers affirmed their commitment to mobilizing all human and legal resources to combat these phenomena that threaten sovereignty, security, the economy, the environment, health, and development.

The declaration also focused on updating the justice systems in both countries and enhancing their governance through specialized training programs for legal and judicial professionals, as well as the exchange of expertise in legislation and administrative management. Both ministers expressed their deep commitment to continuing joint efforts to develop the justice sector in their respective countries.

In his speech during the ceremony, Moroccan Minister of Justice Mr. Abdellatif Wahbi emphasized that the two countries would continue to strengthen the achievements made in bilateral cooperation in the field of justice, pointing out that this cooperation plays a central role in addressing current challenges, including combating terrorism and organized crime.

For his part, French Minister of Justice Mr. Gérald Darmanin expressed his pride in the meeting, which reflects the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries. He confirmed that this cooperation would cover various areas, including updating the justice system, legislative development, and strengthening judicial coordination between the two sides.

At the end of the meeting, both ministers praised the quality of relations between Morocco and France and expressed their appreciation for the dynamism seen in judicial and technical cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that this cooperation remains part of a rich historical tradition shared between them and reflects deep ties within the framework of “judicial Francophonie” and mutual solidarity.
