Red Alert: Heavy Rain, Snow, and Strong Winds Expected from Saturday to Monday in Several Regions of Morocco, Including Fes-Meknes

The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a red alert, forecasting snowfalls ranging from 25 to 60 cm in mountainous areas above 1500 meters, in addition to heavy rain, occasional thunderstorms, local hail, and strong winds with localized dust storms. These weather conditions are expected to affect several regions of the kingdom from tomorrow, Saturday, until next Monday.

According to the alert, snowfall will affect mountainous areas above 1500 meters in several regions, including Ifrane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, and Midelt, where snow accumulation is expected to range from 35 to 60 cm. The snowfall is expected to begin at 12:00 PM on Saturday and continue until 1:00 PM on Monday.

The meteorological department also issued an orange alert, indicating that snowfall (ranging from 25 to 35 cm) will affect other areas, including Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Ksar El Kebir, Sefrou, Taza, Boulemane, Khénifra, Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Chichaoua, and Taroudant. These snowfalls are also expected to occur from Saturday at 12:00 PM until Monday at 1:00 PM.

As for the rain, the forecast includes heavy rainfall, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, ranging from 80 to 130 mm, with local hail, expected in the cities of Tangier, Asilah, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, and Al Hoceima. These rains will begin from midnight on Saturday and last until 6:00 AM on Monday.

Heavy rain (ranging from 40 to 70 mm) is also expected in several regions from Saturday evening to Sunday morning, including the provinces of M’diq-Fnideq, Ouezzane, Kenitra, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Taza, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, and Khénifra.

Additionally, moderate rain (ranging from 25 to 35 mm) is expected on Saturday in the provinces of Essaouira, Safi, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taroudant, and Khemisset.

Regarding winds, the General Directorate of Meteorology predicts strong winds with speeds of 70 to 95 km/h, accompanied by local dust storms. These winds will affect several regions, including Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Tangier, Larache, Tetouan, Rabat, Salé, Casablanca, Marrakesh, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Rahmna, Safi, Ouarzazate, and other areas. These strong winds are expected to continue until Sunday evening.

The General Directorate of Meteorology urges citizens to exercise caution and follow safety instructions during these exceptional weather conditions.
