Bourita Responds to European MPs Being Denied Entry to Laayoune: “Movements Without Impact”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, described the attempt by four European MPs and their companions to enter Laayoune illegally as “mere movements without any impact.” This came during a press conference following his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Regional Integration of the Republic of Cape Verde on Tuesday in Rabat.

In response to a journalist’s question on the topic, Bourita affirmed that Morocco exercises full sovereignty over its southern provinces, as it does over its entire national territory. He pointed out that the Kingdom, including its southern provinces, welcomes millions of tourists annually with ease, in addition to officials and official delegations. He cited the visit of the President of the French Senate to Laayoune on Monday, as well as the numerous visits by business leaders and international officials to Morocco.

Bourita explained that any visit to Morocco, whether official, tourist, or for specific missions, is subject to clear organizational procedures within a regulated framework, in accordance with applicable laws, just like any other country in the world. He emphasized that anyone who respects these rules is welcome, while the law is applied to those who attempt to violate them, as is the case in other countries.

The minister added that such attempts have no impact whatsoever on Morocco, which fully exercises its sovereignty over its southern provinces, as it does over the rest of its national territory.
