The Popular Syndicate of Taxi Drivers, along with the Moroccan Association of Road Transport Professionals for Taxi Drivers and the National Observatory for Transport and Driver’s Rights, sent a letter to the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Microenterprise, Employment and Skills, calling for an urgent meeting to discuss what it called “abuses” committed by the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), which has negatively affected road transport professionals.
The letter emphasized that a number of professionals have received notices to pay debts that are not due, in addition to imposing unjustified fines, which has burdened drivers, especially in light of the difficult economic conditions in the sector. The signatories of the letter also pointed out that some workers in the sector found themselves in front of unexpected tax files, without prior knowledge of the obligations imposed on them.
In this context, the signatory unions called on the minister to convene an emergency meeting to discuss these abuses and find effective solutions to protect the rights of professional drivers, stressing that the professionals have documents proving the extent of the damage inflicted on many of them and are ready to present them during the planned meeting.
A source from the said union told the newspaper that this correspondence documents the extent of the damage suffered by taxi professionals due to these abuses, pointing out that “huge amounts of money have been unjustifiably deducted at the level of the city of Fez alone, without counting the rest of Morocco,” adding that there are cases of drivers who were subjected to double or triple deductions, which led to the accumulation of huge debts.
The trade union organizations stressed the need for urgent intervention by the ministry to review these imbalances and find quick solutions, especially since many professionals are unable to bear the financial burdens imposed on them illegally.
