As part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and illicit substances, National Security and Customs officers successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 5,180 psychotropic pills on the evening of Monday, February 24, at the Beni Ansar border crossing. A 29-year-old suspect, believed to be linked to an international drug trafficking network, was arrested.
The operation followed precise monitoring of the suspect, who was arriving on foot from the city of Melilla. A thorough search led to the discovery of the concealed drugs hidden under his clothing in an attempt to evade security checks.
The detainee has been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecution to identify all possible accomplices and determine the full scope of this criminal activity, both within Morocco and on a regional and international level.
This operation aligns with the national security strategy aimed at combating cross-border crime, strengthening border surveillance, and ensuring public safety while cracking down on illegal drug trafficking networks.
