The General Directorate of National Security (GDNS) reported in an official communiqué that National Security and Customs officers at Tanger Med port managed, on Friday, to thwart an attempt to smuggle 1852 units of firecrackers and flares, and arrested a 42-year-old man suspected of being involved in the introduction of these dangerous materials that pose a threat to the safety of people and property.
The suspect was arrested upon his arrival on board a cruise ship coming from a European port, where a search operation carried out inside the vehicle he was using resulted in the seizure of 36 boxes containing the seized quantity of firecrackers and flares.
The same source confirmed that the detainee was subjected to judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, with the aim of identifying all the circumstances of this case and uncovering any possible extensions of this criminal activity.
