Security Operation in Al Hoceima: Arrest of Human Trafficking Suspect

In a high-profile security operation, police officers from the Regional Security Directorate in Al Hoceima, in coordination with the General Directorate for National Territory Surveillance, successfully arrested a 43-year-old man suspected of involvement in a criminal network engaged in human trafficking and illegal immigration.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, February 20, followed extensive monitoring and surveillance. The suspect was apprehended in the act while preparing a secret migration attempt to Europe via maritime routes, targeting eight individuals seeking illegal entry. A search related to the case led to the seizure of a fishing boat, two marine engines, and a sum of money suspected to be linked to human smuggling activities.

According to security data, a background check on the main suspect revealed that he was already wanted by national law enforcement under an arrest warrant issued by the Royal Gendarmerie in Al Hoceima for previous involvement in a similar case of migrant smuggling and human trafficking.

The suspect has been placed in police custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor. Meanwhile, the illegal migration candidates are undergoing legal procedures to determine the full extent of their involvement. Investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the criminal network as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking.
