Mysterious Tunnel Between Morocco and Ceuta: A Secret Passage Shakes Spanish Security

In a high-profile security operation, the Spanish police announced on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the discovery of a secret tunnel connecting Morocco and Ceuta, raising suspicions of drug smuggling into Spain. The discovery comes as part of extensive investigations aimed at dismantling smuggling networks operating along the border between the two countries.

According to an official statement from the Spanish Civil Guard, the tunnel was found during an inspection of a warehouse in Ceuta’s industrial zone. It extends dozens of meters and reaches a depth of approximately 12 meters, indicating a well-constructed infrastructure designed to facilitate illegal activities. The statement described the tunnel as narrow and reinforced with wood, strengthening suspicions that it was used for smuggling hashish.

While the Moroccan side of the tunnel has yet to be identified, Spanish media reports suggest that it is at least 50 meters long, with the possibility of extending even further, a detail still under investigation.

The discovery was part of a weeks-long security operation targeting a drug trafficking network that used trucks to smuggle narcotics. The raid led to the arrest of 14 individuals, including two police officers, and the seizure of over six tons of hashish.

Spanish authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the tunnel was still in use and whether it was part of a larger smuggling network operating through the Strait of Gibraltar.
