Algerian authorities released on Tuesday a new batch of Moroccan citizens who had been detained for attempting irregular migration through border crossings, including 31 people, including one young woman, who were deported to Morocco after completing their detention period, according to the Moroccan Association for the Assistance of Migrants in Difficult Circumstances (AMADC).
According to the Moroccan Association for Assistance to Migrants in Difficult Circumstances, the handover took place at the Jouj Beghal border center in Oujda and Colonel Lotfi Maghnia, and included detained Moroccan migrants, as well as prisoners who had completed their sentences in Algerian prisons.
The association explained that those released hail from different Moroccan cities, including Fes, Oujda, Taza, Taounat, Laroui, Tioli, Bouarfa, Casablanca, Laayoune, Qalaa, Beni Mellal, Nador, Khenifra, Sefrou, and Souk el-Sabt Oulad el-Nema, some of whom have served their prison terms, while others have been detained for more than five months awaiting deportation.
In a related context, the association confirmed the continued detention of a number of Moroccan youth in Algeria, calling for their release and revealing the fate of the missing, and stressed the need to address this file and speed up the deportation procedures, noting that it reiterated its demands during the international forum organized in Oujda on February 7 and 8, 2025, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with Border Victims and their Families.
The association also expressed its hope that this step will contribute to achieving a greater breakthrough and the return of all detained Moroccans, in addition to handing over the remains of the deceased to their families and revealing the fate of the missing.
In a related context, the association emphasized that it is continuing its efforts to expose the activities of networks involved in the exploitation of migrants, calling for the opening of investigations and prosecution of those involved in exploiting the suffering of families, and stressed that it will continue its voluntary work to support families and litigate on this file to ensure the rights of migrants detained in Algeria and other countries such as Libya and Tunisia.
