Judicial Reform in Morocco: A Key Challenge for Strengthening the Rule of Law

In an exclusive statement to Fez News following the international conference held at the Marriott Hotel in Fez under the theme “Procedural Laws Under Reform: Challenges of the Right to Defense and Protection of Rights,” Sylvester Marsac, Vice President of the International Association of Lawyers (UIA), emphasized that judicial reform in Morocco represents a significant challenge that must be addressed to ensure the right to defense and reinforce the rule of law.

Marsac highlighted that this conference, organized by the Fez Bar Association in partnership with the Moroccan Bar Association and UIA, comes at a critical time when fundamental procedural law reforms are required. The objective is to strike a balance between judicial authority and litigants’ rights, marking a turning point in strengthening justice and upholding legal integrity.

He further stressed that an effective judicial system must safeguard rights, ensure transparency, and uphold fairness. He noted that Morocco’s ongoing reforms aim to modernize its legal framework in alignment with international standards, fostering a more efficient and equitable justice system.

Concluding his statement to Fez News, the UIA Vice President reaffirmed the association’s support for these reforms, expressing hope for their swift implementation, given their crucial impact on improving judicial performance and ensuring fundamental rights and freedoms.
