International Conference in Fez … Lawyer Lana Roberto Highlights the Challenges of Justice Reform and the Rule of Law

In an international conference held in Fez, lawyer Lana Roberto, a member of the Swiss Bar Association in Geneva and Vice President of the UIA International Criminal Defense Committee, addressed the challenges of justice reform and the protection of the rule of law.

Speaking at the International Conference on “Procedural Laws Under Reform: Challenges of the Right to Defense and Protection of Rights,” organized by the Fez Bar Association in partnership with the Association of Moroccan Bar Associations and the International Union of Lawyers (UIA), Roberto emphasized that any legal reform must prioritize the right to defense and the protection of litigants.

She highlighted that discussions at the conference were insightful and constructive, as lawyers and legal experts exchanged views on the reform of Morocco’s Criminal Procedure Code and its implications for fair trial guarantees. Roberto stated:
“The challenges of procedural law reform are not exclusive to Morocco; they are global concerns. Lawyers must remain united and committed to safeguarding fundamental rights and upholding the rule of law.”

She further stressed that ensuring swift and balanced justice should be the primary goal of any legal reform while preserving the fundamental principles of the right to defense. She warned that lawyers bear a historic responsibility in protecting these guarantees from any potential violations.

Roberto concluded by commending the collaboration between Moroccan and international legal professionals, emphasizing that cooperation and knowledge exchange are essential in addressing the legal and legislative challenges facing justice systems worldwide.
