Brussels meeting : Associations call for activating the political participation of Moroccans and evaluating the Diaspora Council

On Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Human Rights House in Brussels, the Civil Democratic Council for Moroccan Emigration held a communication and organizational meeting on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the royal speech delivered by His Majesty the King on November 6, 2024.

The meeting was attended by associative actors from France, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany and Belgium, who discussed the rights of citizenship and political participation of Moroccans around the world, while calling for the activation of the constitutional provisions related to this.

The participants insisted on the need to involve the civil society frameworks of international expatriates in the discussions related to the implementation of the contents of the royal speech and finding meaningful solutions to their issues. They also emphasized the importance of involving women more and motivating young people to engage in associative work.

The participants raised the need for training workshops and scientific seminars in partnership with research and study centers, with the aim of raising the level of political culture, awareness, performance and advocacy on all issues of concern to the global expatriates.

The participants called for unity among the various associations of international Moroccans, and the rejection of fictitious Facebook leaders, in order to have a strong and effective presence to defend their issues. They also warned of the spread of extreme right-wing anti-immigrant ideas.

The Civil Democratic Council for Moroccan Emigration issued a statement recording “deep regret for the government’s continued procrastination in implementing the royal decisions and failing to open channels of dialogue and communication with credible associations of Moroccans.”

The Civil Council rejected the inclusion of the old faces that oversaw the “failed experiment” of the current Community Council, and called for an independent evaluation of the performance of the Community Council and its administrative and financial management and the identification of responsibilities.

The statement included a reference to solidarity with the “democratic class” in its various forms of struggle against the current government’s policies, and a call for a royal pardon for the Hirak Rif detainees and prisoners of conscience. It also called on Moroccan associations in the diaspora to work to unify the ranks and strengthen the Moroccan voice.

The Council called for vigilance and mobilization to confront the growing dominance of far-right ideas, and to make 2025, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the Green March, an exceptionally dynamic year to celebrate this national occasion.
