On the night of Saturday, February 15, security forces in Laayoune successfully dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking networks. Officers from the Regional Judicial Police, in close coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, arrested two individuals, aged 21 and 33, suspected of involvement in drug possession and distribution.
This security operation was based on precise intelligence, leading authorities to carry out a well-planned intervention in the “Foum El Oued” area near Laayoune. The suspects were apprehended while traveling in a taxi, and an initial search resulted in the seizure of 1,886 “Rivotril” psychotropic pills, along with doses of cocaine.
As part of further investigations, security forces raided the suspects’ residences in Laayoune, uncovering an additional 2.5 kilograms of hashish in tablet form, prepared for distribution.
The suspects have been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to uncover any potential links to a larger drug network and identify other individuals involved in this criminal activity.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by security authorities to combat illicit drug trafficking and the distribution of psychotropic substances, which pose a serious threat to public safety and social stability.
