The Democratic Civil Council for Moroccan Migration: A New Phase in the Struggle of the Diaspora

Fes News has received a press release from the Democratic Civil Council for Moroccan Migration, announcing the organization of a significant meeting on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Brussels, Belgium. The event aims to discuss public policies related to migration and the full citizenship rights of Moroccans worldwide, both in their host countries and in Morocco.

This meeting comes 100 days after the royal speech delivered by King Mohammed VI on November 6, 2024, in which he urged the Moroccan government to accelerate the adoption of a new law for the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad and to establish the Mohammed VI Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad. These initiatives are intended to strengthen the connection of the diaspora with their homeland and ensure effective representation.

According to the press release, this initiative is part of the action plan of the Democratic Civil Council for Moroccan Migration, formerly known as the Parliament of Moroccan Migration. The council seeks to create a constructive dialogue platform for Moroccans abroad to discuss their issues, assess current policies, and propose innovative solutions to improve their conditions.

The Brussels meeting will focus on mechanisms for engaging with European governmental policies, enhancing coordination among civil society organizations concerned with migration, and exploring ways to safeguard achievements and ensure the full exercise of citizenship rights for Moroccans worldwide.

The event will be held at the Human Rights Center in Brussels, adding a symbolic dimension given the significance of the issues at stake. The council reaffirmed its commitment to working towards enabling Moroccans abroad to enjoy their constitutional rights, emphasizing that the Brussels meeting represents a crucial step in amplifying the diaspora’s voice. It aims to secure their right to active participation in public affairs and contribute to shaping a new social contract that guarantees rights and responsibilities for all Moroccans.
