Fes News observed a massive protest on Friday, February 14, 2025, organized by the workers of Palais Medina Hotel in Fez, affiliated with the General Union of Moroccan Workers (UGTM – Fez branch). The demonstration took place in front of the hotel, as employees expressed their anger over what they described as the administration’s “stubbornness” in addressing their long-standing and legitimate demands.
The protesters chanted slogans demanding better working conditions, particularly salary increases, which they deemed insufficient compared to other five-star hotels. They also called for long-overdue professional promotions, emphasizing that despite their patience and dedication—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic—no progress has been made.
Union representatives stated that their 2023 demand file was submitted to the central administration in due time, allowing ample opportunity for its inclusion in the 2024 budget. However, as they enter 2025, no response has been received, prompting the workers to escalate their protests.
The demonstrators pointed out that Palais Medina Hotel, part of the Atlas Hospitality chain, offers wages significantly lower than other luxury hotel chains, which they consider unfair, especially given the rising cost of living.
At the conclusion of the protest, the local office of UGTM in Fez reaffirmed its commitment to continuing demonstrations and escalating actions if the administration persists in ignoring their concerns. They called for serious and responsible dialogue that would lead to fair and equitable solutions, ensuring both workers’ dignity and the stability of the hotel institution.
