Morocco’s Efforts to Combat Corruption and Enhance Transparency Highlighted by Government Spokesperson

Following the Cabinet meeting held yesterday, Thursday, January 30, 2025, Government Spokesperson Mustafa Baitas addressed the efforts made by the government to combat corruption and enhance transparency within the Moroccan administration. He outlined a series of strategic measures taken under the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2016-2025, noting that the government has already achieved over 76% of the goals set in this strategy.

Baitas emphasized that these measures represent concrete steps towards improving the effectiveness of the government and developing state institutions. Among these measures, he highlighted the issuance of several key laws aimed at improving public service quality, such as the Law on Simplification of Administrative Procedures and the decree on public procurement, which aims to ensure greater transparency and oversight in the use of public funds.

In addition, the minister mentioned that the government continues to strengthen the digital transformation, which he sees as a cornerstone in the fight against corruption. Through digitalization, it has become easier to streamline administrative processes and facilitate access to public services, significantly contributing to preventing corruption. Baitas also highlighted the importance of developing open digital infrastructure, which ensures equal access to information and helps foster a culture of transparency.

In this regard, Baitas stressed that combating corruption requires a collaborative effort from all stakeholders, including the state, institutions, civil society, and relevant bodies. He pointed out that without this cooperation, Morocco will not be able to address this phenomenon, which threatens sustainable development. He also emphasized that attempts to deflect or shift responsibility onto others will not solve the problem but will instead weaken the national efforts being made.
