In a move that reflects growing tensions within the justice sector in Marrakech, the local office of the National Union of Justice Employees has issued a strongly worded statement condemning a series of rights violations and administrative abuses directed at union employees by the head of the Registry at the Court of Appeals.
The statement, which was received by “Fes News,” reveals the deep dissatisfaction felt by the union regarding the pressures and repressive practices faced by its members, including direct threats and ongoing provocations. The local office considers these actions a blatant violation of union freedoms and a threat to escalating tensions within judicial institutions.
The statement further highlights that the behavior of the head of the Registry in Marrakech is marked by authoritarianism and abuse of power, indicating a desire to revert to outdated practices that conflict with the legal progress Morocco has made in recent years. The local office views these actions not only as an attack on union freedoms but also as a means of sowing fear and discrimination among employees based on arbitrary standards tied to submission and compliance.
In an extraordinary meeting held on January 27, 2025, the local office decided to take several steps to address these practices, including submitting a report to the relevant judicial authority and sending a memorandum to the Ministry of Justice documenting all violations, including discriminatory treatment of employees based on personal and narrow considerations.
At the end of the statement, the local office of the National Union of Justice Employees expressed its readiness to take further escalatory action if the intransigence of administrative officials persists, holding the Ministry of Justice fully responsible should the situation continue to deteriorate. The union also called on all its members to unite and mobilize to face these challenges, stressing the need to protect workers’ union rights and professional duties.
