Sexual Harassment Case Shakes High School in Rabat

A first-year secondary school student at a sports-study high school in Rabat has filed a complaint against her sports coach for sexual harassment, attempted assault on modesty, and blackmail.

According to Assabah, the 16-year-old student claims to have been a victim of sexual harassment and blackmail in exchange for her participation in international competitions. She has lodged a complaint with the public prosecutor’s office near the Court of Appeal in Rabat, which is expected to order an investigation into the matter.

Mohamed El Massafi, the student’s lawyer, stated that he possesses evidence of the harassment, including testimonies from fellow student-athletes and chaperones who reportedly witnessed the coach, inebriated, knocking on the minor’s room door late at night while she was in South Korea with her team for an international competition.

The lawyer noted that after the young girl returned to Morocco, her mother complained about the coach’s behavior to the school’s sports director. However, no sanctions were reportedly taken against the accused, which has led the student’s family to express their outrage over the coach’s blackmail tactics. They allege he went so far as to prevent the girl from participating in a sports competition in France and suspended her from classes for a week with the agreement of the school’s sports director.

While awaiting the examination of the complaint, the student’s family has decided to interrupt her schooling. Meanwhile, the school’s administration, which has been informed of the complaint, is conducting its own investigations to determine responsibilities and impose administrative sanctions on those involved in this case.
