As part of the awareness campaign on the recent updates to the Family Code, the Women’s Organization of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), in collaboration with the regional and provincial secretariat of the Northern Fes District, organized an important communication session. The event was attended by the President of the Regional Office of the organization in the Fes-Meknes region, Khadija Adria, who emphasized the importance of this meeting in correcting misconceptions circulating on social media regarding the Family Code. She clarified that the code is not exclusively for women, as often portrayed, but rather a Family Code that works to ensure justice for women, children, and men, urging attendees to seek information from official sources to avoid spreading falsehoods.
Khadija Al-Hajoubi, President of the Regional Council of the party in Fes-Meknes, added that the discussions during the meeting were vibrant and enriching. She explained that the misconceptions about the Family Code were addressed with clear explanations, stressing that the code is not only for the benefit of women but for families as a whole, particularly for children and parents. A significant part of the discussion focused on women’s rights, such as custody and post-divorce rights, with an emphasis on the positive changes being made in addressing family matters in line with societal developments.
The topic of custody was also discussed, with an emphasis on the Moroccan mother’s right to custody of her children even after divorce. Participants also addressed the issue of the custody certificate, which has long been a barrier for mothers in the case of separation, and called for streamlining procedures to facilitate children’s enrollment in schools.
At the end of the meeting, participants praised the recommendations presented, affirming that these updates aim to strengthen family cohesion. Khadija Adria expressed optimism that these discussions would contribute to the development of the Family Code and bring it to the national dialogue table. She mentioned that the party is ready to open a broad discussion on the Family Code across all regions of the Fes-Meknes area.
