2024 Government Performance: A Critical Review by the Democratic Labor Organization

The executive office of the Democratic Labor Organization held its meeting at the end of 2024, where it conducted a comprehensive review and analysis of the government’s performance for the year. After examining various aspects of political, economic, social, cultural, and environmental achievements and challenges based on several national and international reports, the executive office presents this year’s report to the public, which includes a modest critical reading of the economic and social performance of the Moroccan government in 2024, focusing on the most significant achievements and failures in social areas that concern Moroccan citizens.

Political Achievements:
The report proudly notes the positive developments in the territorial integrity file, thanks to successful royal diplomacy and effective foreign policy, which garnered increased international support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative in Western Sahara as a realistic and lasting solution to the fabricated conflict by neighboring countries. It also highlights strong strategic partnerships established particularly in the fields of economy and renewable energy.

Economic Performance:
Economically, despite an increase in foreign direct investment in sectors such as energy, industry, and tourism—reflecting investors’ confidence in the national economy—the growth rate did not exceed 3%, which is low compared to Morocco’s economic aspirations. The report indicates that Morocco faces significant challenges, including a trade deficit that has worsened by 6.5%, reaching 275.74 billion dirhams by November 2024.

Social Challenges:
On the social front, Morocco witnessed alarming increases in unemployment rates, rising from 13% to 21%, particularly affecting youth and university graduates. The report emphasizes that despite some governmental efforts to enhance social stability through social protection programs, the goal of achieving social justice remains elusive amid severe economic and social challenges.

The report concludes by calling for urgent reforms in government policies to better serve citizens’ interests and achieve social justice.
