After many years of struggle and demands for the establishment of the “Research Professor” framework within the basic system for employees of the Ministry of National Education, an agreement was reached between the ministry and the most representative unions. The agreement stipulates changing the framework to “Research Professor” in three batches starting from 2024. However, the presentation of the first batch has been postponed, which has caused discontent among doctors in the sector who feel that the ministry has not adhered to the terms of this agreement.
It is noteworthy that doctors are suffering from a lack of recognition for the value of their academic degrees in the current educational system, putting them in a difficult position. Some observers have warned of a possible new escalation from this group, especially given the ongoing dysfunction in Morocco’s education system and its instability over several years.
The question now is: Will the Ministry of National Education intervene to rectify the shortcomings in the agreement signed with labor unions on December 26, 2023? And will the dire situation be sufficient to push the ministry to implement this agreement and achieve justice for the doctors? These questions remain open under the current circumstances.
