Police forces in Tangier, in coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, have successfully dismantled a criminal network specializing in drug and psychotropic substance trafficking. The security operation, which took place on the afternoon of Thursday, January 2nd, resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including a woman, aged between 20 and 35 years old.
The main suspect, a woman, was apprehended at the train station in Tangier while attempting to travel. She was found in possession of a large quantity of narcotic pills, amounting to 3,695 tablets of “Zepam”. This medication belongs to the benzodiazepine class, which is used to treat anxiety and insomnia but can lead to addiction when misused.
Following the arrest of the primary suspect, intensive investigations and inquiries led to the apprehension of three other individuals suspected of involvement in the same criminal activity. All suspects have been placed under custody pending the judicial investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The ongoing investigations aim to identify potential extensions of this criminal network and uncover all criminal acts attributed to the detainees. This operation is part of the continuous efforts made by security services to combat drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, which poses a significant threat to citizens’ health and community safety.
It is worth noting that Moroccan law severely punishes drug possession and trafficking crimes, with penalties that can include imprisonment and fines, in addition to the confiscation of narcotic substances and funds obtained from this criminal activity.
