Police Officer in Fez Accused of Extortion and Unauthorized Stops

The Provincial Judicial Police Service in Fez opened a judicial investigation on Thursday, January 2, 2025, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, into a case involving alleged extortion by a police officer working in the public security division.

Initial details of the investigation revealed that security services received two complaints from drivers, accusing the police officer in question of stopping them outside his official duties and attempting to extort money from them. Following these complaints, the suspected officer was identified and arrested on the same day.

The police officer has been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with the aim of uncovering all circumstances and details of this case. Meanwhile, the General Directorate of National Security issued a decision to temporarily suspend the suspect from work, pending the completion of ongoing judicial proceedings against him.

The General Directorate of National Security confirmed that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the basic statute for national security personnel, once the judicial investigations are completed.

This incident comes at a time when the Kingdom of Morocco is witnessing increased efforts to combat corruption and enhance trust in law enforcement agencies.
