Mr. Hicham Aroudd Highlights Morocco’s Unique Approach to Family Code Reform: Balancing Tradition and Modernity

In a statement to Fes News, Mr. Hicham Aroudd, a member of the political bureau of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), emphasized that the reform of the Family Code reflects Morocco’s uniqueness in balancing religious sovereignty with responsible ijtihad (juridical interpretation). He noted that the reform draws on the kingdom’s religious principles under the guidance of the Commander of the Faithful, while also opening the door to ijtihad to provide innovative solutions that meet the needs of the modern era. This step highlights the Moroccan jurisprudential school’s ability to combine moderation and balance, reinforcing national identity and positioning Morocco as a leader in human rights and social issues.

Mr. Aroudd added that the participatory approach adopted in the reform, which involved various religious, legal, and societal institutions, demonstrates Morocco’s commitment to ensuring a balance between public interest and respect for societal diversity. This comprehensive process reflects a unique Moroccan model that respects authentic religious values while paving the way for legal and rights development in perfect harmony.

He further explained that the reform represents a progressive vision that supports the family as a fundamental pillar of development and strengthens Morocco’s position as a modern state deeply rooted in its traditions, capable of presenting a unique model both regionally and internationally.

Mr. Aroudd emphasized that the reform of the Family Code is not merely a legislative update, but a reflection of a deep-rooted Moroccan spirit that remains true to its values while being open to global developments. It is a call for optimism and belief in Morocco’s ability to achieve a rights-based and freedom-centered society, firmly grounded in its values and pioneering in its openness.
