Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, held talks on Monday in Rabat with the National Security Advisor of the Republic of Iraq, Qassem Al-Araji, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom leading a high-level delegation.
This meeting falls within the framework of “strengthening bilateral cooperation relations, deepening exchanges on matters of common interest, and examining recent developments in the region,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Justice, noting that the meeting was an opportunity to exchange views on shared strategic issues.
During the meeting, Ouahbi presented an overview of the ambitious reforms undertaken by Morocco in various fields under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI. He also reiterated the Kingdom’s willingness to collaborate closely with the Republic of Iraq, particularly through finalizing draft judicial cooperation agreements in civil and criminal matters.
Ouahbi emphasized the importance of developing partnerships in digital transformation, legislation, exchange of expertise, and training, building on the memorandum of understanding signed between the two Ministries of Justice on May 4, 2023.
The minister renewed Morocco’s commitment to Iraq’s sovereignty, security, and stability, praising the remarkable efforts made by Iraqi authorities in this regard. He also recalled the Kingdom’s firm opposition to any infringement on Iraq’s territorial integrity and insisted on the need to prevent any escalation while ensuring the protection of all components of Iraqi society.
For his part, Al-Araji, after highlighting the depth of friendship ties between Iraq and Morocco, praised the excellence of bilateral cooperation and expressed his wish to see it intensify in the coming years. The Iraqi National Security Advisor also affirmed the Iraqi government’s commitment to consolidating relations of friendship and partnership between the two brotherly countries.
He emphasized the shared will to “promote the values of peace and stability at regional and international levels, in line with a shared vision of a future marked by greater prosperity and sustainable development.”
