High-Level Meeting in Meknes Focuses on Urban and Environmental Challenges

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the conference hall at the Urban Agency of Meknes hosted a high-level communication meeting. The gathering brought together Zakaria Baqdir, Deputy President of the Meknes Municipality, members of the Civil Association for Participatory Development, as well as civil society representatives and Ph.D. researchers from Moulay Ismail University specializing in legal and environmental studies.

The meeting, characterized by a spirit of constructive interaction, provided an opportunity to assess the major challenges facing several neighborhoods in the city. Discussions revolved around critical issues, including infrastructure, green spaces, cleanliness, vertical and horizontal signage, public transport, public space encroachment, and stray dogs.

Attendees shared thoughtful insights and proposals to address these issues, emphasizing the importance of implementing both urgent and sustainable solutions to alleviate the residents’ concerns. Mr. Zakaria Baqdir responded positively to all contributions, reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to addressing these challenges progressively, with priority given to the most pressing matters.

The event underscored the significance of participatory collaboration between local authorities, civil society, and academic stakeholders in promoting good governance and achieving sustainable development.
