Naima El Fathawi has issued a sharp critique of the Moroccan government’s policies regarding infrastructure development and the national economy, asserting that the current situation falls short of public aspirations.
In her address, El Fathawi underscored the significant challenges Morocco faces, highlighting a noticeable decline in investment in recent years. She pointed to the “ICOR” report, which rated Morocco poorly in terms of investment impact on the economy, as evidence of the government’s failure to capitalize on economic opportunities and achieve sustainable development.
El Fathawi also expressed concern over growing social and regional disparities, noting stark contrasts in living conditions across the country. While some areas benefit from major projects like high-speed trains and advanced ports, others continue to struggle with basic infrastructure deficiencies, leaving them economically and socially isolated.
She went on to criticize corruption and conflicts of interest within the government, highlighting the prevalence of monopolistic practices where exclusive contracts are awarded to specific companies. According to El Fathawi, these practices exploit public authority for private gain, violating legal and constitutional obligations.
On social protection, El Fathawi condemned the government’s policy of privatizing public hospitals and medical schools, describing the move as illegal and opaque. She argued that such measures compromise the healthcare system and jeopardize its sustainability, ultimately harming citizens’ access to essential services.
El Fathawi also addressed Morocco’s water crisis, asserting that the government’s desalination projects are inadequate and lack integration, leaving large parts of the population without sufficient water resources.
In conclusion, El Fathawi criticized the absence of a clear and comprehensive vision for balanced infrastructure development. She called for equitable investment distribution across all Moroccan regions and emphasized the need for innovative and inclusive strategies to enhance quality of life and promote social justice.
