During a public session dedicated to the monthly oral questions directed to the Prime Minister on Monday, December 16, 2024, Member of Parliament Saad baaziz launched a scathing critique of the current government. He addressed several critical issues directly affecting citizens’ daily lives, including weak infrastructure, rising unemployment rates, and the decline in regional justice across the country.
Baaziz began his remarks by discussing the “developmental record” announced in recent years, arguing that the government has failed to meet citizens’ expectations regarding infrastructure development. He stated that projects completed over the past 25 years, led by His Majesty the King, had more impact than current government plans. Baaziz pointed out that Morocco suffers from a lack of a comprehensive and coordinated vision for infrastructure development. He added that the government has failed to effectively mobilize the private sector and banking sector to develop this vital sector, which has contributed to deteriorating conditions in many areas. He also criticized government policies for not addressing geographic disparities, particularly highlighting that certain regions, especially rural areas, continue to suffer from clear exclusion and marginalization.
Regarding unemployment, Baaziz sharply criticized the government for its “weak performance” in creating job opportunities. He claimed that the current government is one of the least productive in terms of creating employment, and instead of reducing unemployment, its policies contribute to its rise. He pointed out that economic indicators show an unemployment rate of 1.7%, which he described as a dangerous sign of the worsening economic situation. Baaziz emphasized that the government has not offered any comprehensive solutions to address this growing problem. On the contrary, its focus has been on large-scale projects that do not benefit the most vulnerable groups, stressing that economic growth cannot be sustained without creating real job opportunities for citizens.
On the issue of regional justice, Baaziz expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of clear policies for fair distribution of development across all regions of Morocco. He argued that the government primarily focuses on major regions such as Casablanca-Settat, while neglecting others, which exacerbates social and economic disparities. He added that such policies contribute to increased migration from rural areas to major cities, as citizens seek better opportunities in the absence of development in their regions. Baaziz also noted that the government has not fulfilled its constitutional obligation to achieve regional justice, and this approach threatens the stability of Moroccan society and increases tensions in certain areas.
In conclusion, Baaziz called on the government to reconsider its economic and social policies, emphasizing the need to adopt a development model that meets the needs of all Moroccans, particularly in terms of infrastructure, job creation, and regional justice.
