Administrative Court in Marrakech Dismisses Ouarzazate Mayor and Deputies for Serious Violations

The Administrative Court in Marrakech ruled on Tuesday to dismiss the president of the Ouarzazate commune, Abdullah H., a member of the National Rally of Independents party, along with his first and third deputies. The court ordered the immediate implementation of the decision.

The dismissal came based on a report by the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Interior, which revealed “serious” violations in urban planning, issuance of administrative certificates, and certificates for electricity and drinking water connections. It’s worth noting that the dismissed president is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence.

According to the same report, the first deputy president, Abdeljalil R., a member of the Popular Movement party, was found to have signed documents outside his legal delegation. The third deputy, Tayeb M., also from the same party, was implicated as well.

In November, the Criminal Chamber of the Ouarzazate Court of Appeal had upheld the prison sentence against the commune president, increasing it from 10 to 18 months, along with a fine of 3,000 dirhams. The charges were related to “insulting judicial officers” and “making statements that compromise the independence of the judiciary.”

This decision comes in the context of strengthening oversight of local affairs management and ensuring the application of the law to guarantee transparency and integrity in managing communal affairs. The action was taken based on a request submitted by Abdullah Jahiz, the governor of Ouarzazate province, to the Administrative Court in Marrakech.
