The Qatari capital, Doha, witnessed a prominent cultural event on Tuesday as Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa and Her Excellency Sheikha Sara bint Hamad Al Thani presided over a distinguished performance of the Tbourida art at the Al Shaqab Equestrian Center. This performance comes as a culmination of a series of events held during the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Cultural Year, aimed at strengthening the exceptional fraternal relations between the two countries.
The event highlighted the art of Tbourida, an ancient Moroccan folk heritage that was inscribed on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2021. This art form combines speed, power, elegance, and beauty, reflecting the Kingdom of Morocco’s deep connection with horses and their rooted presence in the country’s authentic traditions.
The ceremony began with a video showcasing the highlights of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Cultural Year, followed by a parade of participating troupes in the “Hadda” salute, before performing four rounds of Tbourida. The leaders of the five participating troupes had the honor of greeting Princess Lalla Hasnaa and Sheikha Sara bint Hamad Al Thani, and a commemorative photo was taken with them.
This cultural year has received great attention, with numerous important events organized in both Qatar and Morocco. In Qatar, exhibitions such as “Amazigh Jewelry of the Royal Palace” and “Atlas Wonders: A Journey Through Morocco’s Heritage” were held, in addition to the establishment of the “Dar Al Maghrib” pavilion embodying Moroccan culture and history. In Morocco, Rabat hosted the Grand Prix of the Longines Global Champions Tour for show jumping, while Marrakech witnessed the “Fashion Trust Arabia” event and the Qatar-Africa Business Forum.
These diverse events affirm the depth of historical relations and strong ties between the two brotherly peoples, reflecting the shared vision of the two countries’ leaders, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in enhancing cultural exchange and mutual cooperation between Morocco and Qatar.
