A tragic incident occurred in the city of Beni Mellal on the morning of Tuesday, December 17th, during a security operation conducted by the Anti-Gang Unit of the Beni Mellal Police Department. The operation aimed to apprehend a dangerous suspect, a 34-year-old man who was wanted under four national arrest warrants for drug trafficking and the illegal distribution of psychotropic substances.
According to available information, the police intervention followed accurate intelligence confirming the suspect’s involvement in multiple criminal cases. However, as officers attempted to arrest him, the suspect violently resisted using a bladed weapon, posing a direct and imminent threat to the officers’ lives.
Faced with this serious danger, one of the officers was forced to draw his service weapon in an effort to neutralize the threat. Tragically, a stray bullet was accidentally discharged, hitting a fellow officer, a security guard, in the chest. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the injured officer succumbed to his severe injuries.
Despite the tragic loss, the police successfully apprehended the main suspect, along with another individual believed to be involved, and seized the weapon used in the assault.
Under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, the two suspects have been placed under judicial custody for further investigation to uncover the full circumstances and details surrounding the incident.
This heartbreaking event has left a deep sense of sorrow within the ranks of the national police force, which continues to carry out its duties with dedication and sacrifice to protect citizens and ensure safety and stability, despite the significant risks they face daily.
