Initial astronomical predictions have revealed the expected start date of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 2025 in the Kingdom of Morocco. Astronomical expert Ali Amraoui indicated that the first day of Ramadan is likely to be on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
In press statements, Amraoui explained that Ramadan this year will last for only 29 days, meaning that Eid al-Fitr will fall on March 31, 2025. These predictions come within the framework of astronomical calculations based on the moon’s movement and the appearance of the crescent.
It is worth noting that the Kingdom of Morocco follows a precise methodology in determining the beginning of lunar months, especially Ramadan, relying on the visual sighting of the crescent with the naked eye. This method aligns with Islamic teachings and prophetic hadiths that urge fasting Ramadan upon sighting the crescent.
Despite the accuracy of astronomical calculations, the official announcement of the beginning of Ramadan will be issued by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs after observing the Ramadan crescent. The Kingdom relies on a wide network of specialized committees spread throughout the country, in addition to utilizing the services of the Royal Armed Forces specialized in this field.
Regarding timing, the return to Greenwich Mean Time will occur one week before the start of Ramadan, in accordance with Decree No. 2.18.855 issued on 16 Safar 1440, corresponding to October 26, 2018, related to the legal time in Morocco. After Eid al-Fitr, the Kingdom will return once again to GMT+1.
In conclusion, these dates remain preliminary predictions, and Moroccans will await the official announcement from the competent authorities to confirm the start date of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 2025.
