During a scientific seminar organized by the Regional Center for Education and Training Professions in Fez on December 6, 2024, the topic of inclusive education and teacher training in primary schools took center stage. Professors Hanane El Ghouat and Ahmed Mezhar provided insights into the multifaceted challenges of this critical educational issue.
In her statement, Professor Hanane El Ghouat, a qualified lecturer at the center, highlighted key findings from a field study presented during the seminar. She revealed, “The study showed that over 95% of teachers have not received any training in inclusive education over the past three years, underscoring significant challenges in preparing educators to address the demands of inclusive classrooms.”
El Ghouat emphasized the importance of prioritizing cognitive and communication skills in future training programs, alongside enhancing pedagogical and didactic competencies. She stressed the urgent need for teachers to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse needs of students in inclusive classrooms.
Meanwhile, Professor Ahmed Mezhar, head of the Educational Studies and Research Team at the center, underlined the strategic significance of such research in improving continuous training outcomes. “This study represents a pivotal step at the national level,” Mezhar stated. “It aims to define the priorities for ongoing training of teachers working in inclusive education settings.” He added, “The findings will help develop a clear regional and local plan to meet teachers’ needs, enhancing the quality of education in inclusive classrooms. We hope this study serves as a springboard for refining training programs and addressing teachers’ needs in a systematic and effective manner.”
Mezhar further highlighted the leading role of the Regional Center in this initiative, noting that the study would contribute to creating regional training strategies tailored to the needs of teachers in inclusive education. He stressed that this effort opens new horizons for advancing inclusive education in Morocco.
