Taza Students Protest Over Public Transport Issues Amid Tensions

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, students of the Multidisciplinary Faculty in Taza staged a protest to express their frustration over deteriorating public transportation services. The students organized demonstrations to denounce persistent issues such as overcrowding, delayed buses, insufficient routes covering new neighborhoods, and the lack of adequate bus stops. These daily struggles have led the students to demand urgent solutions from the authorities to address the shortcomings hindering their commute to the university.

To amplify their demands, the students planned a peaceful march from the university dormitory to the city center. However, the march was met with security intervention to prevent it, leading to tensions and clashes between the students and law enforcement. According to student sources, the intervention resulted in the arrest of approximately ten individuals.

Eyewitness accounts from some students reported that the security forces used physical force to disperse the protesters, driving them into nearby fields and chasing them through the streets. This approach has sparked criticism over how the authorities handled what was described as a peaceful protest with clear and legitimate demands.
