Trial of “Ould Chinouiya” Witnesses New Developments Amid Tight Security Measures

The case of controversial YouTuber Reda Ould Chinouiya took a new turn during the hearing held on Wednesday at the Court of First Instance in Ain Sebaa, Casablanca.

The long-awaited trial of influencer Reda Bouzidi, known as Ould Chinouiya, began after two previous postponements. Wednesday’s session was particularly tense, with the introduction of new elements related to the case, including a complaint filed by transgender influencer Sofia Taloni, born Naoufal Moussa, against the accused.

During the preliminary requests phase, Ould Chinouiya’s lawyers demanded the exclusion of Sofia Taloni’s complaint, claiming it lacked legal grounds. The defense emphasized that the complaint had not been confirmed before judicial authorities and that the complainant, currently residing in Turkey, had not been officially heard, rendering the complaint incomplete.

The prosecutor countered that investigations can be based on reports and do not necessarily require a formal complaint. He also explained that Morocco has established reporting mechanisms allowing citizens to submit complaints via electronic platforms without the need to physically appear at the police station. Consequently, the public prosecutor’s representative asked the court to reject the defense’s request to exclude the new complaint.

The court took strict security measures to organize the session, as the courtroom was crowded with family members of the involved parties. The court decided to restrict access to the courtroom to only family members of the concerned parties, while imposing enhanced security measures. Metal barriers were installed in front of the room, and additional security devices were deployed to control access.

These heightened security measures come in the wake of disruptions caused by the large attendance during the previous session, reflecting the significant public interest in this case in Moroccan public opinion.
