As part of the intensified campaign launched by the Wali of the Fes-Meknes region, Mr. Moâd Jamai, to reclaim public spaces from the chaotic occupation by café and shop owners, residents of Al-Wafaa Street in the Narjis neighborhood of Fes have called on the Wali for urgent action to address this ongoing issue disrupting their daily lives.
In calls received by “Fes News Media,” residents reported that shop and café owners have taken over sidewalks designated for pedestrians, forcing them to walk in vehicle lanes—a significant safety hazard.
While citizens welcomed the Wali’s campaign to restore order and enhance the city’s aesthetics, they urged for the effort to extend to Al-Wafaa Street, which has suffered from such practices for years.
Residents emphasized that reclaiming public spaces is not merely an organizational matter but a necessity to ensure citizen safety and their right to access public areas. Hopes remain high for local authorities to intervene and put an end to these violations, which tarnish the city’s image and jeopardize the safety of its inhabitants.
